Sir Elton John has hosted one epic, star-studded Zoom call.
The video, shared to YouTube on Wednesday morning, features a who’s who of the music industry dialling in for a quick catch up with the recently honoured singer.
Members from Aussie dance music trio Pnau popped up alongside the likes of Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Nicki Minaj, Olly Alexander, Eddie Vedder, Charlie Puth, Lil Nas X and Young Thug.
The clip promotes the singer-songwriter’s latest collaboration album The Lockdown Sessions.
The first track off the album, ‘Cold Heart (Pnau remix)’, featuring Dua Lipa, continues to dominate the ARIA charts, remaining at No.1 for yet another week, after 18 weeks on the Aussie charts.
The Zoom call has a comical start with technical troubles across the board — including blurry cameras, bad signals and background noise — something many of us can relate to after almost two years of virtual meetings.
“Can you guys hear me,” Nicki Minaj asks, while Jimmie Allen has to tell Colin Padalecki (from the band Surfaces) that he’s on mute and Young Thug says: “my WiFi is not working – can you see me?”
Sam Lewis has his mum call out to him for dinner, while Ollie Alexander uses a cat filter over his face.
“Ollie, I think I prefer you as the cat,” Sir Elton jokes.
Ed Sheeran makes a scene-stealing cameo at the end as Sir Elton feigns being annoyed at the singer for turning up in person.
“But now you’re here, suppose I could squeeze you in… as is my want,” Sir Elton tells him.
Sheeran gives a cheeky smile and sits beside the singer, saying “Merry Christmas everyone”.
The two British singers have a Christmas song out together, called ‘Merry Christmas’, which hit the top of the UK charts.
The proceeds are going to Sheeran’s Suffolk Music Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation during this year’s Christmas period.
