STATEWIDE (3TV/CBS 5) – With less than three weeks to go until Halloween, it’s time to start thinking about Christmas — or at least, your Christmas tree. If you like to cut down your tree, you can apply for a permit at three of Arizona’s national forests starting Oct. 14, and two more on Nov. 9.
The cutting seasons, restrictions, and costs vary from forest to forest. Permits, which are available online at Recreation.gov and at select district offices, are sold on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone.

“For every tree that is found, cut and carried home as a holiday fixture, a new story is created,” said USDA Forest Service Chief Randy Moore. “These stories become the precious memories that create traditions worth carrying on for generations and further connect families with their local forests.”
